The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation (OPRHP) received financial support in the amount of $410,000 from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) to implement a boating stewardship and education program. The purpose of the program is to educate patrons about aquatic invasives species and their methods of transport. We will encourage patrons to become stewards of our water resources and help reduce the spread of aquatic invasive species in New York by inspecting and removing plants and animals from their boats. This program will be implemented over two summers at 15-20 State Parks and DEC Boat Launch Sites located on Lake Erie, the Niagara River, Lake Ontario, and the St. Lawrence River.
